Mathews VA250 commemorates America’s 250th by connecting our community to the people, places, and moments that shaped our county’s role in the American story. We convene partners, host programs and exhibits, and make history more accessible for all.
In 2026, the nation marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In Mathews, we recognize both well-known and lesser-told stories — from maritime heritage and civic leadership to the everyday lives that shaped our county.
Our work highlights local sites and collections, supports educators, and brings neighbors together through events, exhibits, and service opportunities.
